In Kenya, education is supposed to be free and compulsory for all children in public primary schools. However, many children still face school fee issues, especially in private schools and public secondary schools. These issues have contributed to a high rate of dropouts and a decline in the quality of education.

  1. High cost of education: Private schools charge high fees, making it difficult for parents from low-income families to afford. Additionally, public secondary schools require students to pay fees, including tuition, boarding fees, and exam fees. These costs have contributed to high dropout rates, especially among girls.
  2. Hidden fees: Some schools require students to pay extra fees for uniforms, books, and other materials. These hidden fees can be a burden to parents who cannot afford them.
  3. Inadequate government funding: Public schools are often underfunded by the government, which makes it difficult for them to provide quality education. This has resulted in a lack of infrastructure, inadequate teaching materials, and understaffing, which negatively impact the quality of education.
  4. Lack of transparency: Some schools do not provide clear information about the fees charged, making it difficult for parents to budget and plan for their children’s education.
  5. Corruption: Corruption in the education sector has contributed to school fee issues. Some school officials demand bribes from parents to admit their children, leading to unfair treatment and discrimination.

That's where Alumni Bridge comes in. We have built the tools that enable alumni to give back, help & guide students in need of financial aid. We do this by allowing the schools to create Scholarships and thereby unlocking capital for students and addressing global financial access barriers.

Our solution centralizes alumni, schools, and school scholarships in one platform. The schools are able to engage with existing alumni and create funding requests. Alumni are able to engage with other alumni and schools, fund the requests and mentor the students. Accountability is key and therefore the system will report on exactly how the funds were used and how they benefitted the students and in turn the school. The students will have their tuition and upkeep funded and they can tap into mentorship opportunities from past alumni.
